Osteopenia and Osteoporosis

We all have moments when we feel like we have the weight of the world on our shoulders. For people with osteoporosis, not only does their emotional health suffer as a result, but their backs are rounded under the burden as well. Their bones struggle under the emotional stress of everyday life, leaving them to wonder how much longer they can withstand the strain.

Our bodies should not be prisons; they should be the tools with which we move, work, and play our way through life. We need to value our bodies at every stage of life, and emotional wellness plays a continual role. It is never too early – or too late – to discover what they can and should be capable of doing. Walt Whitman wrote, “If anything is sacred, the human body is sacred.” We need to take care of our bodies so they will provide us with a lifetime of use and enjoyment. Osteoporosis is not a mandate to sit around and lament your fate. It’s not an excuse for constant emotional pain. It’s an opportunity to accept the challenge, experience personal growth, and live life to the fullest.
